At the start of term, the 3/4 neighbourhood had been focused on the research stage of our inquiry by playing and reviewing well-known board and card games. Students were curious to identify the various objectives, themes, and dynamics, while also thinking more personally about what makes a game fun to play. Some of the key elements they have considered include the importance of clear instructions and the need for a balanced mix of both chance and skill. More recently, we have shifted our focus toward developing our own games by applying our new understandings toward their creation.
Today we had the opportunity to present our prototypes to each other as well as students from 5/6 so that we could gather feedback and identify areas for improvement and fine-tuning. Sharing our games with an audience was a very valuable experience as it highlighted all our hard work and really made the learning experience meaningful. Furthermore, we have been considering effective, constructive and tactful feedback throughout the game-design process, and it was great to see this reflected in the overwhelmingly positive and supportive response to our work. The passion and creativity of all the young designers has been inspirational and really helped us motivate one another to succeed!
Stay tuned for the next phase of this exciting inquiry where we will be opening up our neighbourhoods to share our completed games with the community.
