This term, students have been creating their own superhero characters to explore our school’s value of ‘Strong and Capable Children’. Over the last few weeks, students worked with their buddies and independently to brainstorm their own strengths and interests, and looked at the different characteristics of animals as ways of developing their own personal superhero identity. We’ve looked at comics and picture story books that feature superheroes, and students have created their own ‘Superhero Backstory’, developing a comic strip to show how their superhero came to be.
Students are currently working on posters about their superheroes, including both facts as well as showing how their superhero’s strengths connect to our school values. A group of students are also working on making their superhero costumes, that will be presented at our Year 2 Assembly next Friday. We have spent the last three afternoons in the Art Studio making ears, tails, glasses, masks, wings, capes, and accessories, but still have a bit more work to do. We’ve asked students to have a think about what sort of items or clothing they might already have at home that they could add to their costume – perhaps a particular coloured shirt, or skirt. It would be great if anything extra that students are planning on wearing with their costume could be brought in early next week, as we will start practicing for our assembly on Tuesday.
