Hooray for Array’s

This term in maths we have been investigating arrays and multiplication.  Students have been involved in workshops, target teaching, provocations and investigations all surrounding multiplication and arrays.

Students went on an ‘array walk’ to identify arrays around the school – we took photos and drew sketches in our maths books.

Whilst participating in target groups, students were set various array investigations to complete during project and provocation time.  This allowed for students to deepen their understanding of how to create arrays to solve multiplication problems and allow for them to consolidate and practice their understandings in a variety of ways.

Students contributed to our ‘array city’, showing their understanding of rows and columns and related multiplication number sentences.

We set a provocation involving creating array robots.  Students were asked to use grid paper to create their own robot and describe it using arrays and multiplication number sentences.

We then moved outside again and used the natural environment to create arrays and matching number sentences.

Students then helped turn these pictures into an array matching game! Click on the below picture to download your own copy of the game!
