Learning Focus | Week 8!

Literacy

This week in Literacy we will continue investigating change and consistency through Jeanie Baker’s lovely book Belonging. The children will continue developing their portfolio pieces from this work.

Also in reading, different ways to engage with texts are being explored and developed whilst we continue investigating different spelling patterns and conventions.

Numeracy

The fidget spinner project continues! The children are exploring measurement (time and weight) and probability. We are making Fidget Spinner Spinner’s using different colours and recording the probability of a spinning spinner landing on different colours. We will map this and create graphs.

Data collection: some children have started to collect data about fidget spinners at PHPS such as occurance of ownership and quantity owned. The children are developing questions and strategies to record responses.

Inquiry: Walking Excursion

Today we enjoyed the walking excursion to Princes Park. We discussed, and will further this week, Sustainability and pollution control, engagement and excitement of the playground and thought about how different communities connect and what that feels like when we do.

These concepts will be further explored throughout the inquiry project groups.

Rainforest

This week we start investigating all the elements of a rainforest. At this stage the children will be engaged in a lot of ‘finding out’ through research using books, social connections and the internet. Later this research will be developed into creative aspects of learning.

Walkathon!

The walkathon was a huge success and lots of fun! The weather produced a great afternoon for the event and the kids had  a ball! Thanks to the parents that came and helped out!

Please ensure you send collected moneys in as soon as possible!

Thanks!

Have a great week!
