Delayed post!
Here is some of the learning from last week.
We would like to draw particular attention to the Inquiry Wall development photo.
We are sitting in the formation of the Socratic Circle. In this circle, the children help one another understand the ideas, issues, and values reflected in their learning through a group discussion. Through this type of discussion, the children are practicing how to listen to one another, make meaning, and find common ground while participating in a conversation.
Last week we got together as a neighbourhood to discuss where we are up to in the current inquiry “My Place in the World” and how we are developing understandings under the guiding question “What changes and what stays the same?”
We provided the students with quotes from themselves and through critical questions and respectfully challenging perspectives, we all arrived at an agreed set of organised categories; Earth, Weather, People, School, and Nature.
Once the children had categorised all their thinking, there were some very clear trends that came through the kids ideas. These trends have created Inquiry Project Groups. The children will be involved in project groups that will investigate different elements of our world and explore the concept of influencing change in our world.
You can see the development of the year 1 inquiry by visiting the Inquiry Wall in the meeting area (North Torus)!
Definitely come visit before or after school!
