In week 1 this term, the preps went on a number hunt. We went for a walk out of the school, searching for numbers between 0 to 20. Every time we found a number, we ticked it off the list and photographed it on our iPad.
Having collected the numbers, we collaborated in placing the numbers on a sheet of paper. This was to help with our understanding of place value, numeral recognition and ordering of numbers up to 20.
We have also been building our part-part-whole knowledge for one and two digit numbers. Children chose different numbers and used unifixes to make two parts to make the number. This helps the students in understanding that numbers can be made up with many different parts, later aiding them in their capabilities of addition and subtraction.
