Open Minded Portraits
Over the first two weeks of term we have been developing deeper comprehension of what we read by creating an “Open Minded Portrait”. Students selected a single character from a book they have read and drew their portrait. On the attached ‘mind page’ they wrote from the perspective of that character. This encouraged them to ‘walk in the shoes’ of the character by considering the thoughts, problems, and questions the character might have
Students will also be using what they have learned about the traits of quality writing (Ideas, Organisation, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Conventions, and Presentation) to create book reviews. They will be able to choose any book they love and present information about how the author has displayed some of those traits in their work. they can do a poster, filmed review, presentation or more!
This term all students are beginning to keep a reading log which is located in the back of their Spelling Book. They will be required to record both home and school reading information.
