Friday Lunchtime Drawing Club in the Year 2 Neighbourhood

Last week was the inaugural gathering of the ‘Friday Lunchtime Drawing Club’, a lunchtime club that has been organized by a number of students in the Year 2 Neighbourhood. It is open for any students across Prep – Year 2 who are keen to spend their Friday lunchtime practicing their drawing skills.

Kitty, Odessa, and Harriet came up with the idea, organized posters to advertise the club, went around to the other neighbourhoods last week to invite students, and set up the Green Room in the Year 2 Neighbourhood beforehand with all of the equipment and materials that they needed for it. The girls plan to focus on drawing a different thing each week, working their way up from objects and food, to animals, and finally, people.

It was a huge success, with around twenty students taking part this last Friday. A few other Year 2’s helped the girls direct and seat the students as they arrived into the classroom, as well as pack up everything at the end of the session. The class ran for about 30 minutes, so that students had time to eat lunch before they arrived, and still had a break of a break before lunch ended. Students got to take their drawing home with them.
