Happenings Week 8

This week, within the Inquiry provocations, the children have been designing our future in the areas of transport, housing and gaming. The technologies of these three areas seem to have a large cross-over zone through which similar technologies may be embraced to streamline life. The children are being involved in conferences regarding the decisions they have made in their design process, the plausibility of their designs and the current knowledge these designs are based from.

Throughout Literacy the children have been creating lots of new and exciting animals such as the octofox etc. Other writing opportunities have included the SOS Letter writing and using the initial letter of a word to create a graphic of that word. The children have been very creative. This has allowed them to explore different spelling patterns.

Within Numeracy, the children have been exploring four, five and six digit number within the repeating place value pattern of ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands. In order to create their own Million Dot Book there has been a focus on record breaking (how many times I can flip a glue stick in 1 minute etc) and creating books to hold the records with dots to represent each achievement. The students have also been using indigenous dot painting examples to inspire their own dot paintings, although we have asked them to form efficient ways of keeping count of their dots once they have finished painting!!
