Dear Parents and Carers,
This week was a great week because we went to ACMI, so we have a lot of things to tell you. At the start of the day on Tuesday we had a few extra people in our neighbourhood – our parent volunteers for the day (Brona, Emily, Mina, Kelvin, Kelly, Duncan, Julie, Denesha, Penny and Amanda). First we caught the tram down Lygon Street to Federation Square. Owen L says it took 15 tram stops to get there. Lyla thinks it took about half an hour. There were other people on the tram. Jude saw his mums’ old university, RMIT out the window. Mia saw a lot of cars and they made her dizzy. Ozzy saw a black and green motorbike that may or may not have had fire coming out of it.
Then we went into a big, dark cinema. Our cool and funny presenter Gary, told us about lots of different fairy tales. He explained that all fairytales have a beginning, middle and end and and also problems and solutions. He also reminded us that all fairytales have magic that comes in many different forms. Things like fairy dust, enchanted objects, spells and potions. We had great lunch and then visited Screen World where we learned about the history of movies, television, video games. All of which have some elements of writing, fantastic images and purpose.
Today we also baked carrot muffins. We used a recipe, which is a form of writing. The recipe helped us know what ingredients to use, how much of the ingredients to put in, and the steps we needed to take to create them. Sebastien thought it was a lot of fun baking the muffins. Lots of people agreed with him.
Before we go outside and enjoy our muffins, we would like to say a big thank you to all the parent helpers who joined us on the excursion!
There will not be a Junior School Assembly this week, but we are busy preparing our Year 2 Neighbourhood contribution for the whole school Harmony Day Assembly next Friday. Hope to see you there!
