Week 8 Learning Reflection

Writing

Students continued their investigation of persuasive texts, focussing on their structure.  Persuasive texts have an introduction that clearly states the author’s opinion, following by paragraphs that give further detail to persuade the reader. Persuasive texts need to use strong language to have an impact. Once students wrote their text, they edited their work.  Editing involves reading to see if the text makes sense, punctuation and adding more detail if required.

Guided Reading

During guided reading this week, students worked on a variety of things, such as navigating online texts, gathering main ideas and details from texts, making connections to text by comparing content, comprehension and word solving.  Students are encouraged to recognise punctuation when they read, pausing for commas and taking a breath for full stops.

Maths

Students began their investigation into money, where they were asked to add small collections of notes and coins and being able to show money in various ways. We continued on our arrays investigations. Students have enjoyed making arrays in our construction space to solidify their learning.

Inquiry

We continued working on our timeline projects, finishing off a draft of a timeline, that showed the key dates in chronological order.  Students were asked to go deeper with their understanding by writing a paragraph that explained the impact that change has had to their chosen topic.

World Ocean Day

To celebrate, raise awareness and money for the Dolphin Research Institute, Princes Hill Primary School had their dress up as your favourite sea creature day! Year two neighbourhood students did an amazing job coming up with their costumes.  Money raised from the fundraiser will go to the Dolphin Research Institute, who run the iSea iCare program, and many other research and marine protection projects.
