Zones of Regulation and Practising Strategies

November 10, 2022 by year1team

This year has proved huge for the development of our personal and social capabilities, the part of the curriculum that supports students learning, collaboration, regulation and competencies for learning. Over the last couple of weeks the children in year 1 have taken our thinking about this more deeply as we have been exploring and building knowledge of a range of strategies to help us be the best people and learners we can be.

“I like the zones because it helps me see what is happening to my friend.”

Saskia

“We do our Zones every morning and sometimes after recess or lunch if they change. Like if we are tired or hot or something happened with a friendship gorup.”

Andy

“Sometimes it can be hard to get out of the blue, but you can maybe help a friend if they are in the blue.”

Nina

To frame our thinking we have introduced the Zones of Regulation and through workshops, targets and provocations have added and testest strategies to our display. This is one way we can communicate and visualize how we are feeling.
