Design and Scientific Thinking

As a neighbourhood the 4/5 students have begun to think more about the many connections between design and science and how designers play a role in harnessing our scientific understandings.

One example of design and science that was discussed was the now commonly seen drone. As a group we considered how its design was enabled by many previous scientific discoveries, including GPS. For GPS to be used, scientists had to design satellites, which required rockets to launch them, which required an understanding of gravity, combustion and gases. 

This understanding will be further developed as we go deeper into design and design thinking.
