In Neighbourhood One, we have been continuing our exploration of gratitude through our three distinct lines of inquiry. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

·       Personal Gratitude: Students have been trialling self-care activities and reflecting on them, considering the importance of taking care of their well-being.

·       Environmental Gratitude: Our recent trip to the cemetery was an opportunity to appreciate the environment and the history it holds. We delivered a presentation on this experience to the 5/6 neighbourhood which proved a great opportunity to practice our speaking and listening skills. We also had the chance to explore the 5/6 propagation project and learn some more about gardening.

·       Cultural Gratitude: We’re in the process of compiling a recipe book, collecting delicious recipes from families, which is a delightful celebration of our cultural diversity.

Across the whole neighbourhood, the students have also been exploring and celebrating each other’s skills. They have each made a profile for our skills menu, outlining their individual strengths and what they can help others with during learning. We hope that this will build social connections and agency as students use the menu to find people to collaborate with.

In Provocations time, some students have been actively working to promote our new neighbourhood compost bin. This initiative reinforces the importance of sustainable living and the power of collective action in making a difference. We have certainly noticed a difference in our composting levels since the creation of eye-catching artwork and a roster for monitors.

Newspaper Club continues to be part of our Provocations and a weekly opt-in workshop, with our budding journalists busy reporting on the latest happenings in our neighbourhood. The students have almost finished typing up their articles and we are ready to compile our first copy next week, ready for distribution!

Our other weekly opt-in workshops are Research Skills and Performance Skills. Students who chosen to engage with these workshops have been working to find out more about a topic of their choice, or to develop, script, and produce a story of their own. It’s been great to see the students follow their interests in this way!
