Dear Parents and Families of Neighbourhood 1,

We are excited to share some of the experiences that our students have participated in over the past two weeks. From captivating performances to immersive learning activities, our students continue to flourish and demonstrate their curiosity and enthusiasm for education.

Gratitude Inquiry

The students have now divided themselves into three groups, each focusing on a specific line of inquiry that explores gratitude more deeply. After developing and recording different questions about personal, cultural and environmental gratitude , the students identified which area they were most curious about and began sharing ideas for taking their learning further. From creating a gratitude dictionary to learning more about how trees produce oxygen for us to breathe, we are excited to see where these projects go next.

During Provocations, the students have been engaging in a range of activities designed to deepen our collective understanding of gratitude:

Self-Portraits: Students have expressed their unique identities in self-portraits that showcase their personalities and individuality. They identified that we need to know more about ourselves and others if we are to show gratitude to each other in meaningful ways.

Cultural Food Exploration: Embarking on a culinary journey, our students have researched the origins of different cuisines and added them to a world map, fostering a sense of respect and appreciation for diverse cultures.

Gratitude Jars and Journaling: The creation of gratitude jars and the practice of gratitude journaling have enabled our students to reflect on and appreciate the simple yet significant moments in their lives.

Tree Making with Clay: Crafting trees from clay has not only honed our artistic skills but has also deepened our connection to nature and the environment.

Book Week

With the African Drumming concert behind us, our focus now shifts to Book Week coming up in Week 7. The students’ minds have been bubbling with creativity as they contemplate their favourite characters from literature and embark on the journey of designing costumes that encapsulate not only the physical appearance but also the growth and transformation of these characters throughout their stories. Book Week promises to be a celebration of imagination, storytelling, and literary exploration.

Poetry

Students are honing their poetic talents by publishing their five-sense poems and participating in lively poetry slams, showcasing their creativity and eloquence.

Money

The students have been engaged in our ‘Neighbourhood marketplace’ setting over the past two weeks to learn about money, practice budgeting, and understand the concept of change. The real-world applications of these activities are invaluable in fostering financial literacy and critical thinking skills.
