In 3/4NH2, students have begun working in four project groups connected to our inquiry this year – Together we are stronger, an inquiry into communities, belonging and wellbeing. Each project group has an outcome related to contributing to our community.
Community House Group
- Ivy Belle- Our plan is to help people’s wellbeing and to deepen our understanding of people’s wellbeing at PHPS. Over this term we have been creating a plan and model for a Community House. We were inspired by a box fort Robert made and decided that we also wanted to construct something useful.
- Ayshe- Our project is a community section in the Discovery Centre. It might have a curtain or something else to separate it from the Discovery Centre. We have gone around the school and collected data for things that we might add to the Community section. Some of our initial data tells us that people don’t always go to the Discovery Centre to help their wellbeing. We want to make it a place where people feel welcome and calm.
Tribes Documentary Group
- Owen – Our group is going to make a short documentary about a game that we play at lunchtime called The Tribes.
- Aurelian – The Tribes is a game where you are a member of a tribe or own a tribe and you have to either lead or support the tribe to manage an area of the school.
- Owen – When we manage an area we have to name the tribe, create a currency for the tribe and harvest resources which are used to create objects of value which can be sold or traded for other resources with other tribes. Each tribe has its own set of laws.
- Aurelian – The tribes have formed an agreement called NATT (National Association of the Tribes) which sets out the laws and agreements between the tribes.
Short Story Collection
- Sumaya – After we publish the book, they will be available for parents and special carers and other community members to purchase.
- Hattie – The students in 3/4N2 have been writing a utopian/dystopian narrative which we are planning to publish as a combined book.
- Hattie – Before we publish we need to collect all the stories, agree on a cover design and a name for the published book.
- Sumaya – We will have a cover design and book title competition which will be voted on by 3/4N2.
Public Art
- Lucinda- This term we have started to explore public art and Moreland City Council. Public art tells a story and everyone in the community can see it. It can bring us together.
- Rowan – Next term we are planning to paint or make a big sculpture or mural representing our community. We might display it somewhere in the school or somewhere in the public where people will see it most.
- Lucinda- One of my favourite pieces of public art is a golden rope sculpture that shows all the different pieces that go together to make a community.
- Rowan- My favourite piece of public art is the Rolling Path along the Merri Creek. To me it represents that you might be having a normal walk on the path and not be aware of all of the other things that might be happening to other people around you.
- Lucinda- We are going to have to do more research into other pieces of public art and the stories behind them to inspire us.
We are excited to see how these group evolve and the resulting outcomes.
