People in our Community
Inquiry – Together We Are Stronger
Dear parents,
This week, as part of our inquiry into communities, belonging and wellbeing we have thought about the people in our community and how they impact our lives. These people could be in our neighbourhood, part of our family, a sports coach or someone we see that makes us feel good.
The students have been using portraiture as a way to represent their community members.
We have been painting and drawing portraits of people from our community. Some of these were done in an abstract style. (Ayshe) An abstract portrait is not realistic, it could have details that don’t exist in the real world but help to show the person’s personality (Max, Makaila and Leah) For example Marlo created an abstract portrait of his close friend Jamie by only using triangles.
I drew a picture of my teacher, Jess from MDC. I drew her because as a neighbourhood we were discussing this provocation and how we could include people from outside our neighbourhood. Jess is special to me because she always makes me feel happy. (Ayshe)
I have started a portrait of Alex S because she is a nice friend and caring. (Evie M)
Ivy Belle was inspired to share some of her favourite paintings, including Portrait of Dora Maar, painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937. This could provide some further inspiration for the portraits being developed in ¾ N2.
Stay tuned for more from 3/4 N2.
