Dear families and carers,
Some of the learning opportunities in our neighbourhood this week include:
Writing
Writing a letter to your future self. The students have written a draft and will be publishing their letter this week. We are focusing in spelling, word choice, paragraphing and adding interesting detail. The letters will be handed in and then opened when we return from camp at the end of the year. Ideas to write about could include how you have been feeling about 2022 so far, our new neighbourhood, the teachers and friends. There might be some questions you have for your future self and some goals that you hope to have achieved by the end of the year.
Inquiry
For our inquiry we have been exploring the idea of community and belonging. Through written responses, drawing, mapping and art, the questions we have explored are: What does ‘belonging’ mean to me?- What does my culture mean to me?- How does our community support all different kinds of people? What sorts of places and services help with this?
Reading
As a neighbourhood we have been loving our shared text, Fireborn by Aisling Fowler.
Our spelling focus this week is compound words such as hair+brush = hairbrush. You can look for examples as you read and think of your own definition of compound words.
In our Literature Groups we are using the Thinking Routine, See, Think, Me, We to guide our response this week.
Maths
Our problem solving in maths this week looks at multiplicative thinking. Students are also working on their own maths goal.
