Story Telling in the Real World – Term 1 Week 10
The last two weeks have been all about experiencing stories in the world outside of the PHPS fence as the students from neighbourhood two experienced two excursions and two wonderful guest speakers.
Our visit to ACMI saw the students participate in a Light and Shadow puppet workshop where the students drew inspiration from shadow puppets from the past and different places. Stories were created and shared as the student experimented with different hands-on materials. The students were able to test out a new way of storytelling as they learnt about how to use colour and lighting to build meaning and convey emotion.
Guest speakers from our own neighbourhood also came in to share stories from their lives. Hunter (Saskia’s dad) shared his incredible travels in Alaskia and Dzenana (Ayla’s mum) shared her family’s refugee story. We are so thankful that we have great community members who have incredible stories to share with us!
While storytelling has been our main focus neighbourhood 2 has also been learning through the garden project. As the season begins to change, the students will start to plant seeds and look forward to tending to them and harvesting different things at the end of the season. To build on this the students visited the International Flower and Garden show to get inspiration, test our soil, and learn about the process of designing and planning a garden.
It has been a wonderful term filled with many experiences and we are looking forward to an incredible term 2!
