People in a community are united…

People in a community are united – Matilda Harris-Gabriel

As we are now well and truly into the school term, students have begun to consolidate collaborative projects based around our Inquiry concept of “Community”. Over the past two weeks, the 5/6 Neighbourhood’s learning has continued to expand into a number of exciting projects.

Community means a group of people working and being kind together – Tom Collette

This fortnight we explored ‘Needs and Wants’ based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and developed our own hierarchies! The students reflected on the difference and connection between needs and wants.

For our Community of Writers project, we learnt a lot about how we can encourage our community to write and engage with the rest of the community. Newspapers, posters, and so many other things were considered for this project, and it got a lot of people excited about sharing their ideas! Some of us created newspapers, people did all different types of ways to create one. Some were physical and some were online. Below are some of the examples…

Our “Community of Problem Solvers” is still thriving with students delivering presentations as part of their maths workshops. Within workshops students have been collaborating in groups to research strategies that they believe will assist others in their learning.

The 5/6 teaching team are super excited with the incredible ideas students have been developing and we look forward to seeing what the rest of the term brings. We appreciate your continued support for our 5/6 community within our school and wider school community!
