Year 5/6: Skipping & Invasion Games
Students in Year 5/6 have been building on their ability to skip, building their endurance, and getting their heart rate pumping. We have also got the long rope out and begun to work on our timing of being able to jump over the rope before it touches us, in preparation for being able to ‘Double Dutch’. Students are also collecting data each week on how many skips they can do in 20s and are tracking to see their growth.
Our other focus has been ‘Invasion Games’. We’ve been able to explore the idea of many sports being based around the idea of invading and made links to the many different groups of people throughout history who have invaded countries. All of this has linked to the main ideas of control, territory, possession, and goals. Students have been developing their ability to dribble balls in soccer and basketball. Focusing on being able to have control of the ball, in preparation for that impending defender!
