Regional Athletics & Looking Forward!
During Week 9 of this Term, 17 of our pupils travelled and participated in this year’s Divisional Athletics events. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be there in person to support but as news came flooding in towards the end of the day, we discovered 8 of those kids had an incredible day out and made it to Regional level placing either 1st or 2nd! These strong and capable children are Sonny Dryden, Gabe Gorman-Jacobs, Olivia Lu, Kat Marketou Watt, Maggie Mcleod, Jude Parsons, Mimi Paterson and Lyla Russell. As the Regional event isn’t until the early weeks of Term 4, we know these kids will be building their training during the holidays, and when the time comes, give their absolute all on the day! We at PHPS wish you all the very best and who knows, some of you may even reach State Level!
Back at school, all students have engaged in a number of different sporting codes over the past fortnight. The Junior school have continued to explore their skills within Hockey and Lacrosse, but they’ve also revisited/learned a number of classic games such as Dodgeball, Wood Knock, Poison Ball and Golden Child. Traditionally during the final week of the Term, students have been given the voice to choose what game they’d like to play to which many chose Octopus and/or Zim Zam Zoom.
The senior students have been very busy learning and experiencing a number of brand new games they’ve never heard of before. This is because next Term, kicking off in Week 2, the 56 students will be beginning their Summer Interschool Sports competition against our neighbouring schools. It’s refreshing to learn these new sports as I’ve had positive feedback from parents (and students of course) explaining how these same sports have been explained or even played back at home too! The five sports will include Basketball, Cricket, Rounders, Newcomb and the growing popular code of Tchoukball! It was important for the Year’s 34 to also experience these sports as over the coming years, they too, will be required to nominate one of these sports for their own Summer ISS competition when they’re in Year 5 & 6.
Looking forward to Term 4 in Health & PE:
- Summer Interschool Sports starting from Week 2, each Thursday (Year 56)
- Regional Athletics (12th October)
- In connection to the World Cup in November, a three-week unit of Soccer (school-wide)
- New sports explored such as Table Tennis, Netball, Gymnastics, Hand Ball and many others
