Exploring our world
Our exploration of the world continues.
Our focus is the natural world and the built environment.
The children were given the opportunity to choose their area of interest.
We created two groups to begin exploring these concepts more deeply.
We began by asking the children to share their knowledge and wonderings.
The Built Environment:
“Buildings and cities are made by people.”
“Cities have stadiums.”
“Cities have building, traffic lights and people.”
“Cities have cars, trains, trams and buses.”
“I wonder how electricity works in cities?”
The Natural World:
“Plants help us breath.”
“Some dinosaurs evolved into other animals.”
“Coral is a living thing.”
“I wonder how plants grow?”
“How did the earth grow?”
“I wonder how the rivers, sea and lakes connect?”
“How do meteorites form?”
As a group, we analysed the responses. As educators we were looking for patterns of thought, differences and possibilities for challenging learning.
To build on the children’s understanding of the natural world and the built environment the whole neighbourhood are visiting Melbourne Museum this week and next.
