Term 3 Week 8
Welcome back Jo! Since returning to school after camp, the children in the 3/4 Neighbourhood have returned to answering our two guiding questions:
Physical play: How can we improve physical play for everyone at our school? We have children who are planning lunchtime clubs to improve play time across the school. Look out for expressions of interest for lunch time clubs such as gymnastics, soccer and basketball! Children in the construction space have been exploring structural stability through using different building materials and experimenting with different shapes.
Digital Creativity: How can digital creativity be used to communicate our stories and values?
Moving forward, we are excited to be working with Hannah as our artist in residence to begin mapping the play at our school.
In the digital creativity group we have been learning about the history of symbolism and how graphic designers now use common symbols to communicate meaning. We are currently looking at our school value “One Community”. The children have defined this value to mean:
One Community
We treat others the way we want to be treated.
We walk in others’ shoes.
Empathy
We respect and support each other.
We value the Traditional Owners of the Land.
We value the differences of different people in our community.
We value people’s different religious and cultural backgrounds.
We treat each other the same regardless of gender, religion, culture, different abilities, skin colour, age or appearance.
Seb: We don’t exclude people. We include people.
Jaseem: Adding on to Seb, we don’t exclude people because of their appearance.
Some of the initial designs for symbols to represent ‘One Community’ are below.
