Term 3 Week 8 – A Reflection on Book Week
Book week really is one of the biggest weeks in the school year! Pure joy and excitement as we drive head first into quality books, stories, characters and imagination. This year, book week was even bigger and better, with two full days of whole school celebration as well as all the learning undertaken through workshops and provocations across the whole week.
Last week, we also celebrated the culmination of our artist in residence program for this term. With the students who worked hard on the program throughout the term able to share a gripping snapshot of their stories. From Uma (Jaya and Matilda’s character) to the bad guy Cotten Tony (from the creative story written by Oliver!) The student writers took us on a journey filled to the brim with tense moments of ‘bad news’ and exhilarating moments of ‘good news’!
As a neighbourhood we eagerly prepared to share our costumes, working to think about character growth along the way. Through a workshop, we posed the question How Does My Character Grow? Which led to some reflecting and great connections between different characters from very different stories.
