Term 4 – Week 11 – What is a Story? The final blog for 2023.
This week we have completed our films, bringing to an end our incredible inquiry for the year “what is a story?” Through our production companies, we have become filmmakers, writers, editors and storytellers.
For our final blog post, we also have the opportunity to look back on our journey from this semester through our final inquiry statement which was developed with the children to share our experience.
This semester we have continued to explore our big idea “What is a Story?” Through a number of experiences both inside and outside of the neighbourhood. The children drew on their interests developed through the provocations about iMovie and from the artist in residence program we began to think about how we can share stories through film. As a neighborhood we visited ACMI to learn about stories through the moving image and to the Footscray community art center about how to incorporate paper art into storytelling. We thought about the elements of film and invited a few film making and script writing experts in, wow we had a lot to learn! Our neighbourhood then split into three production companies, each one connected through their interests and passions. Team Toys productions was formed, creating a film about the value of toys and play, Paw Armadillos productions developed a film about the importance of nature and Pickle Family productions developed their film about the value of friends and family. We also developed a shared rubric which helped us articulate the elements of good film making and to self assess and reflect through the process. Through our production company, the students have developed as writers, directors, animators, Foley artists, voice actors, advertisers and product developers. Our inquiry was filled with storytelling, writing and sharing and all of the students in Neighbourhood 2 are proud to share their stories through their films.
On Tuesday, Dec 12th we had our film premier at the PHPS learning and finally shared our films with you all!
