Term 4 Week 8 – Film Projects Continued…

Students are coming to the end of filming their collaborative films in the three production companies. As a whole neighbourhood, we had a discussion about how we were finding the film making stage of our inquiry projects so far – things we have enjoyed and challenges we have had, and then looked forward to the next stage of editing and post production, where the audio and visual materials will be put together to create our films. It is this stage where the music, and other sound and visual effects will be added, to turn all of the shots that we have filmed into a movie. 

Some of the things that they have enjoyed as part of the film making stage are:

• More than one group gets to have a turn to see what everyone else has been working on (Alba)
• I like how everyone gets their own choice to put something into their films (Ursula)
• Working with everyone in my inquiry group – I get to work with different people (Piper)
• I’ve got to meet more people and working with more people that I don’t usually work with (Louis B)

Some of the challenges that we had were:

• Some bits of the clay sculptures keep falling off so we have to keep making more (Louis E)
• I found making the set challenging, trying to do small details with model making and drawing was tricky. (John)
• Getting everything ready in time! (Iggy)
• Using materials like sticky tape to make our props was sometimes challenging (Billy)
• Working with people that are not my friends (Gwen)
• It’s been hard filming – characters have broken and we needed to pause filming to re-make the characters and do it again (Raph)
• It was hard to do the decorations for our scene – we were trying to make it in 3D but it was hard to make it out of lego (Lilu)

As we move into the editing stage, students are most excited about:

• I’m really excited about finishing filming and watching the videos and seeing what else needs to be added (Enid)
• I’m excited about other people watching our film when it’s finished! (Ursula)
• I’m excited about putting the sounds in and hearing the specific sounds that we chose (Kai Ling)
• I’m excited about the editing because I’m good with editing and there’s alot that will need to be edited (Amira) 
• I want to learn and get better at editing videos and film (Louis B)
• I’m looking forward to watching the other groups’ films (Vienna)
• I’m looking forward to seeing how our film goes and working out the problems we might need to fix (Alba)
• I’m excited that our production company can be like Disney or Pixar, like a real one (Fabius)
