Our Inner and Outer Selves – Term 1 Week 4
This past week we have been deeply exploring who we are. We noticed that we are actually a lot of different things! We wondered if perhaps we were different on the inside, or perhaps different in different places or with different people.
To more deeply explore this we had a number of projects and workshops. In particular, a workshop where we explored our inner and outer sleeves through drawing, painting, shape and image. To accompany our images we also did some writing to express these parts of ourselves in writing.
Here is a snippet of our neighbourhood discussion, reflecting and commenting on our learning.
I noticed that they are all unique and different. – Lou Lou
They are all different because they are all different people. – Kai Ling
They are all beautiful in their own way. – Josie
The inner self tells us what people like. – Fabius
They are different ways of doing things and different people like different things. – Alba
People might not like your picture. But that’s okay! We are different people. – Amira
People are all different in their own ways. – Matilda
Why is it important to talk and share about our differences?
It’s important because we can learn about each other. – Iggy
It is important because we know that it is OKAY that we are different and like different things. – Jonathan
We could celebrate our differences.
It is good because we can be special in our own way. – Kai Ling
If we wanted to make a new friend we could learn about them from their picture. – Olive
Part of making connections with each other is learning about them.
We can continue to learn about each other. – Alba
After our big discussion, we began to think about the next steps and the children noticed that while this work shares and focused on the question “Who am I?” we still need to collaborate to explore the question “Who are we?” which will be a focus in the coming weeks in the lead up to our Learning Expo.
