The posters went up around the neighbourhood in the lead up to the whole 5/6 community coming together for the ultimate gathering… deciding on our writing worlds for our “Stories that Changed the World” inquiry. The excitement was high, anticipation was growing, and there was a real buzz around the neighbourhood. Students knew the work they had been putting into creating their worlds, and developing story elements over the last 6 weeks would lead to something… that something was finally happening…
Archie M – Is it going to be a random group?
Banjo – Are the things up around the wall the group focus?
Ziyu – What about the plans we’ve been working on?
Claudia – So you could design what the characters look like.
Lee – Can there be more than one artist in the group?
The students worked in mixed groups to share big ideas and concepts to the 9 themes displayed around the room. There were so many great ideas! Connections were made between texts, their own experiences, the developing of writing world story elements that they have worked on this term, and connections were also made to all of the concepts from our community inquiry.
Students then got to ‘hot dot’ their top three themes… these will then be the basis for the themes of our writing worlds going forward.
