Yes that is right, we visited the Western Treatment Plant, destination of Melbourne’s waste. The educators regaled us with the history of the town of Cocoroc , its fine history of being one of the first places to have an AFL Women’s team and then its transformation into the premier destination to treat Melbourne’s waste. Students were fascinated with the historical jobs such as the Night Soil Man and were very engaged asking questions. Students experienced first hand how Melbourne’s wastewater is treated and they investigated the natural water cycle and how human activity interacts with and affects the cycle in Melbourne.
In the neighbourhood students have been working hard to draw scale floor plans and create artist impressions of their future schools . Students have begun to build models of their designs with solutions to combat challenges created by climate change.
We have been blown away by students’ problem solving, innovation and their ability to test and improve their ideas with a growth mindset. Students have enjoyed sharing their ideas with the neighbourhood and have been providing positive feedback and inspiring one another with their endeavours. Students are working towards the Term 4 Exposition where they will showcase all of their amazing designs.
