Building on the excitement of the Welcome and Learning Expo, 3/4 Neighbourhood 1 students were keen to continue their inquiries into the natural world, and thinking about how things work across the globe, from our cultural connections, to ecosystems, volcanoes, and about the creatures that inhabit our school, from spiders, other insects and plant and bird life. Our inquiry is now evolving into some big ideas:
- Human cycles and natural cycles
- How can we understand and influence these huge complex systems?
- What is our place in this?
- What are our responsibilities as an individual, as a member of a local community and as a global citizen?
- How can our understanding of science, history and geography change our behaviours?
The neighbourhood will meet as a whole next week to establish some big questions we can inquire further into going forward.
This week we considered Harmony Day and the many cultures represented in our neighbourhood. We created an ‘Appreciation Tree’ with leaves for all students, on which others can provide a compliment.
