Week 3 Learning

Some of the learning taking place in our neighbourhood this week is outlined below:

Inquiry / Writing

Within our inquiry, we are exploring our place in the world, and what it means to belong to a community. We are starting to learn how to write essays which describe which communities we belong to. We will begin by making a list of all of the communities we belong to, such as sporting clubs, our suburbs and local neighbourhood, the school and cultural groups. The title of our writing will be ‘Which communities do I belong to?’ and will include three paragraphs in the body – one for each community, talking about what it means to be part of that group.

Inquiry / Projects and Provocations

Students are investigating Lunar New Year and other cultural celebrations, and recording their findings. We are also responding to the provocation ‘Which cultural celebrations do I take part in, and how does my family celebrate these occasions?’

Additionally, students are looking at World Maps, and the Indigenous map of Australia and recording any questions that they have after looking at those maps. Following that, we are using the internet to research and record answers to those questions.

Maths

In Maths, we will be ordering and representing numbers to 10,000 and beyond, counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. Students are working to order groups of numbers within a range that is appropriately challenging for them.
