Term 3: A Term In Review

In year 2 we have had an incredibly busy term bookended by two exciting excursions! The students have thrived being given the opportunity for some hands-on authentic learning that they were then able to bring back to our community and most importantly a fun time was had by all! In between our trip to CERES and our experience at Scienceworks in year 2 we have then explored the topics in more depth in our classroom. These topics have included Indigneous horticulture and other ways of knowing, the future of our world and how we can have a positive impact on it.

To start off our term we visited CERES community garden and continued to build on our students interest in indigneous way of learning that has evolved in to our indigenous garden project. To revisit our amazing learning journey at CERES click below:

Guided by the student’s curiosity we started to move from the future of our world more broadly to begin trying to shape the future of education. We began an exploration that we continued throughout the term looking at what our students’ school of the future could look like. This included designing a timetable, picking subjects, and prioritising educational goals for the students’ future.

We were lucky enough to have Science Week fall during our investigation of the future, and between our excursions to CERES and Scienceworks. Building on top of all this brilliant scientific knowledge the students conducted very important research experiments with a focus on following the scientific method, and of course fun.

All throughout the term we have continued to work on our indigenous garden inspired by our excursion to CERES. This will hopefully be our lasting legacy as a year 2 community. We have researched what plants to plant, how to look after them, how to share our knowledge and much much more. For a more in depth update check below.

Finally to top off a scientific term last week we went on an excursion to Scienceworks. The students had a great time exploring different activities including Earth, Moon and Sun, The Lightning Room!, Think Ahead and even a movie at the Planetarium
