Making a splash & a swing!
Week 3 saw the senior students engage with the annual Swimming Carnival, which was held this year at Fitzroy Pool. It was a fantastic occasion which allowed the Year’s 4-6 to challenge themselves in four different swimming events; Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke as well as Butterfly. There was also the opportunity for our Freestyle Relays, which saw several very close finishes!
For those who weren’t keen on swimming, it was also a chance to chant and support their fellow house team members. Students wore wigs, put on coloured face paint, designed creative signs and used their loud voices in screaming their peers home down the swimming lanes. But at the end of the day, there had to be one house winner, and boy was a a very close call – 3 house points between 1st and 2nd, in fact!
1st Place: Green House 230 points!!!
2nd Place: Red House 227 points
3rd Place: Gold House 171 points
4th Place: Blue House 96 points
I’d like to thank those who not only came to yell and support their kids at the pool, but in particular the parents who took on several roles in making sure the day ran smoothly. Finally, congratulations to the kids who made it to District Swimming which was held this week, again at Fitzroy Pool. Results will be shared in our next post, stay tuned! These students truly represent our school values of strong and capable children – good luck to all!
Back at school, it was all about getting into the swing of things – the swing of the racquet, that is. Students in Prep-2 have been busy working on body movement as well as hand and eye coordination. They’ve also been practicing their under/over arm throws, single and double hand catching as well as balancing skills. This week, they’ve been introduced to the bat tennis racquet and over the coming weeks, students will also have the opportunity to experience tennis and combine the skills they’ve been practicing in their lessons. The main aim for this swinging unit is to develop the students hand and eye coordination when using a bat tennis racquet/tennis racquet. It’s also a chance for them to practice stroking the ball in the correct direction and, most importantly have control of the ball when bouncing or hitting.
