Celebrating our return to school through Health & PE!
Back in the first two/three weeks of the Term, students were given the opportunity to nominate a new sport – one we haven’t yet played before – to experience, as part of our returning to school celebration. Through a Seesaw post, many students nominated their most-wanted sports and/or games, to which I counted and set out in plan for the final six weeks of the year. Taking into account for the final three weeks, students will also be involved with an end of year Athletics/Mini Olympics celebration sports event as the recent lockdown caused us to cancel these events altogether back in Term 3.
One of the most popular sports/games the Preps had chosen for the return was Little Gymnastics! Here, their learning objectives were all about the development of balance, strength and specific body movement. It was also a chance for the students to experience/explore more unique movements such crawling in tight spaces, somersaults and fitting through odd shapes.
Mini Golf was surprisingly one of the popular sports for Year 1 – 4. Boy did we love it! And learn quite a bit too! From putting to chipping as well as learning about our footwork and arm direction! It was a great chance to work on their hand and eye coordination from holding the golf club correctly to striking the ball. There was also a big sense of calm when playing, as I am told – having to breath deeply just before taking a shot.
And finally, for the senior students, it was all about cricket! Fitting that the warmer weather has arrived. The learning objectives were all about the consolidating of their batting and bowling skills. We also used a good amount of time practicing under and over arm throwing as well as catching, too.
