Preparing, waiting, training and…waiting!
It was very frustrating finding ourselves back in remote learning at the end of Week 4 and here we are still, another two weeks to go, and we still haven’t competed in either of our Athletics Carnival or Mini Olympics event! Even though these last two weeks we have found ourselves at home once again, it has been absolutely amazing looking through the high level of engagement the kids have shown in our Health & PE Seesaw provocations!
Week’s 5 HPE Seesaw task was all about preparing for either the Athletics Carnival (Year’s 3-6) or the Mini Olympics event (Prep-2). It was in the hope that we would all return to school the following week for these exciting events to commence – here, students were asked to engage in any of the specific athletics sports, practice and prepare to compete with our peers at school. Senior students focused on their running events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m), throwing events (Shot Put or Discus) and jumping events (Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump or Triple Jump). Junior students were also encouraged to practice the running events (50m sprint or Team Relays), throwing events (Tennis Balls or Frisbee) and jumping events (Hurdles, High Jump or Long Jump).
During Week 6’s remote learning, the students engaged in something a little different with HPE. As well as encouraging the students to continue with their personal trainings and preparations, they were asked to stop and reflect on setting personal goals for either the Athletics Carnival and Mini Olympics event. It was an opportunity for the kids to really think about goal setting in a different format where they could either focus on themselves as an athlete, being a team player or even competing in just a single event!
The senior students were also required to extend their thinking about how to best prepare for a big event like the Athletics. Here again, they were asked to list or record themselves explaining a number of ways that helps them perform at their very best. Examples could be the food and drink they consume, amount of sleep, how much training and any other unique tips they have that achieves results.
