On your marks, set, GO!
As we step, run, throw and jump closer to our Athletics Carnival in Week 5, the students are working hard training and trialing out for several events. Since we returned last week from remote learning, trials have been set for 400m and 800m within their Health & PE sessions whereas this week it was about High Jump, Hurdles and the big 1,500m run!
Students have also been given opportunities to practice their skills in other athletics events such as triple/long jump, discus and shot put. Not only are the senior kids eager to practice and set themselves new personal goals, but the younger years have been keen to get involved too! There’s been a huge amount of talk of how the Olympics has pushed them to improve or even try out a new event. The amount of students putting their hands up in trials has been sensational.
Not long after the senior athletics carnival, the junior school will also hold a mini ‘Olympic day’ where students will have opportunities to participate in similar events just like the older kids. It won’t be a formal event like the senior carnival, but will be held at school where they will have the opportunity to compete against their peers and experience what the older year levels have done.
