Netball, ISS & District Cross Country!
We’re only half way through Week 4 of the term and already so many sporting events have taken place lately!
But first, let’s focus on what we’ve been working towards back at school. As we look deeper into our idea of a ‘healthy self’ students this week discussed what was important for them to keep a healthy lifestyle. Many had responded to the topics of a healthy diet or getting regular exercise, whereas other students identified keeping a happy mind was important to them. Here are some students responses as what was important to them in maintaining a healthy self:
Alex (Year 3): I think keeping a diary of what exercise I’ve done and how much meditation I’ve done throughout the week would work.
Fabius (Year Prep): Running and playing games are the best way to live a happy life.
Banjo (Year 4): It’s not just about a healthy diet and healthy exercise, it’s also about having a healthy mind too. A healthy mind always makes for a happy mind.
Hattie (Year 2): Junk food isn’t always bad, you just have to have it sometimes instead of every night.
Iggy (Year 3): Thinking about what I eat makes me wake up feeling more fresh – fruit and vegs help me get the sleep and rest I need.
The sports focus that followed basketball in Weeks 1 & 2 was Netball. Again, another sport that was voted to experience, has similar required skills to basketball, although the rules (as the students found) came to be quite challenging. One rule in particular – not moving your position when you have the ball in possession – was truly a frustrating rule for some, but they came to find it was great practice for their development of passing accurately, catching in small spaces as well as ‘pivoting’ with one foot.
Interschool sports began last week and what an excellent effort it was by all! There were some strong performances from all teams, some fantastic sportsmanship captured and brilliant umpiring by the teachers of course. This term’s ISS tournament will run for seven weeks and conclude in the final week of Term 2.
And finally, a big congratulations to the following students who made it to Cross Country Division! The event will be held on June 3rd at Banyule Flats Reserve, Somerset Drive, Heidelberg. The students included:
