The Circle and Collaboration
This week we will be exploring a collaborative approach to painting using shape and colour to create both a large scale and smaller individual piece. This exercise in painting examines the accidental as a means of exploring possibilities….
Students were introduced to the idea of the circle. Circle, shape and colour became the focus for the session. However, it was working collaboratively on collective decision making, sharing of ideas and understanding that we all see the world form our own unique perspective, that became the main focus for the session.
Seeing how others make colour choices and decisions are very important and inspiring learning opportunities.
In week 3 we explored the work of Wassily Kandinsky, through his work Circles and Squares:
This week students created their own circular colour paintings inspired by Kandinsky. They examined Kandinsky’s use of shape and colour in his work.
In pairs, students discussed colour mixing and the joys of the discoveries when playing around with colour mixing.
They began with primary colours and created secondary colours using different quantities of each colour to experiment with a range of shades.
There is an understanding that colour mixing is a science and requires a systematic approach to mixing in regard to quantities.
