Luci, camera, azione!

April 29, 2021 by specialistteam

Luci, camera, azione! This term we enter the world of dramatic play and expression as we explore the use of Italian language through puppetry, simple skits, drama games and role plays. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate in creating their own puppet shows, role plays, freeze frames and more. We will investigate the use of body language, facial expression, voice and movement to express emotions and communicate meaning. We will imagine and create characters, develop storyboards and scripts, perform and respond to one another’s performances. We will engage in a variety of drama games to build team work, confidence and expression, whilst building our Italian language capacity!

We’ve commenced the term by engaging in some fun and effective drama games that help to embed vocabulary and pronunciation, whilst building team work and communication skills.

A favourite drama game is pizza margherita: students create a large circle, all move into the circle saying the words pizza margherita, expressing a particular emotion with their voice, facial expressions and body language. It’s really fun to observe the different ways in which students (and the teacher) express the different emotions!

Sciarade (Charades) is a fun and collaborative way to revise key vocabulary, as students work in teams to guess a particular mime and give it an Italian name.

Non importa is a game that reinforces team work and cooperation whilst motivating students to use Italian to support, encourage and praise their classmates.
