Hand Skills & Cross Country Trials!
Over the past two weeks, both the junior and senior schools have had slightly different HPE focuses. The junior school continued with the strong focus of hand and running skills, whilst the senior school turned their concentration towards the challenging cross country trials!
The junior school had been building on our inquiry idea of a ‘healthy self’ within our sessions this term. Students agreed that to build a ‘healthy self’, certain physical skills were needed, and over many discussions, we came to find the following skills were of the areas the students wanted to work towards:
- Throwing skills
- Catching skills
- Balancing skills
- Running skills
By having these four skills as an area of our ‘healthy self’, the students engaged in a number of fun and self chosen activities such as ball throwing/swapping, net bouncing, hoop bowling, frisbee throwing and as well as a number of running games which included poison ball and wood knocker.
As for the senior school, cross country was what it was all about!
We were given lovely warm weather all week, but there was no one else besides the students themselves who were most excited (and nervous) about the event. Depending on their age groups, students were to run around our main school oval for 2km/3km. The top 10 fastest times are chosen to go onto District Cross Country to represent our school. The follow age groups include:
– 8/9/10 Boys
– 8/9/10 Girls
– 11 Boys
– 11 Girls
– 12 Boys
– 12 Girls
Many of the runners found the event to be challenging while others thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I’d like to congratulate the 60 boys and girls who will be representing our school at District Cross Country next term – Thursday 29th April. The event will be held at Princes Park – more information on this event will be communicated to parents of the top-10 runners in the near future via compass.
And finally, with some incredible news, we’d like to congratulate Aurelie Kostova on successfully making it to the State Finals with her tennis! Aurelie played exceptionally well to win all of her matches in her regional trials and will now go on to face some of the states most skilled tennis players at Boroondara Tennis Centre on May 24th. We wish her all the very best and look forward to sharing the news of her results.
