Welcome back to a fun filled 2021 in Health & P.E.
Welcome back to a fun filled 2021! What an enthusiastic return we’ve had in Health and Phys Ed this term! I’m so excited to be taking over the reigns of Maddy from last year and looking forward to getting to know every student throughout the school.
The first few weeks this year has been a fantastic opportunity to get to know all of the home groups throughout the school. In particular, what passions and interests students have in Health and P.E. As we continue last year’s school-wide focus on student agency, it was a great chance to share, explore and nominate the many activities and sports students wished to either discover or continue building their skills in.
Starting the year off, we focused on general body movement. This included running, throwing, catching, pushing/pulling, jumping and understanding self flexibility. The students used a variety of equipment to assist including bean bags, hoops, buckets, skipping ropes and ball use. A competitive game the students thoroughly enjoyed was Tic Tac Toe – one the whole family can play at home!
Highlights from the Preps – exploring our gym, outside ovals, equipment room as well as enjoying the ever so popular Poison Ball game.
Year 1 & 2 – engaging with a variety of bean bag throwing, strategic game playing as well as creating their very own original game with available equipment.
Year 3 – working in teams on target practice with throwing and catching, racing against each other using bean bags and, of course, participating in a game of dodgeball.
Year 4 – working in teams with a variety of throwing activities, participating in a series of problem-solving games as well as finishing with a game of soccer.
Year 5 & 6 – besides the many discussions of the upcoming swimming carnival, they also had the opportunity to create their own original game using a list of available equipment.
