Fabulous Music Line Up at the Bazaar

Two sleeps to go!!! There is a huge vibe of excitement buzzing as we count down the days to this long awaited event, and everyone is revved up and ready to swing into action for the big Bazaar bump in. Along with all the amazing stalls, rides, irresistible food and more, the unsurpassable ‘Em ‘n’ Ems’, Emily Burke and Emily Hayes, have programmed a mini Woodstock Festival for the centre stage. Featuring performers at the musical heart of our community, not only will the music program lift our spirits and make us feel great, we will delight in celebrating the talent of wonderful local artists and our connection to them.

I won’t ‘spill all the beans’ now, because special surprises should be just that! However, I am deeply pleased to reignite our friendship with the Music students of Princes Hill Secondary College, many of whom began their music learning with us, and are now having a great time making the best of many musical opportunities at PHSC. We are delighted to welcome back, for the first time since the Pandemic, the PHSC Arnold Street Band, and to welcome the new Yr 8 rock band Planet 7. At 12 noon, listen out for The Receivers: we affectionately claim them as our very own for they first formed their band in Yr 4 at PHPS. They are none other than Ava and Poppy Pearce and Arlo Fennessy, and we are thrilled that they will accompany the PHPS school choir and the visiting choir from Brunswick South Primary singing Forever Young: so please, please… please, join us at the stage and sing along.

There will be inspiring operatic classics, the best songs ever to connect us big people to our ‘teeny tiny’ inner child and children, and our wonderful PHPS Talent Quest: performances of courage to melt your heart. Our community spirit will be free to sing, dance and ‘let rip’ with the rhythm of life. Hmm, perhaps I have dropped too many hints! We look forward to sharing some great music with you.

Meanwhile, our Super Prep Stars have welcomed our 2023 Preps and families by singing for them in the first Prep Orientation morning last week. They sang 4 songs which showed that we enjoy singing in any musical style that resonates with our interests and learning. The Preps opened their performance with a Preschool classic ‘Mr Moon, Mr Moon’ and then shared their creation story verse from Bjork’s Cosmogony song. We then swayed into an original lyric about cucumbers set to the melody of ‘Eidelweiss’, and ended with the viral YouTube song about corn, because corn is Robert’s favourite vegetable! The Preps sang wonderfully, and we were super proud! Bravo Preps.

In preparation for the Bazaar Dance Session on Sunday, the students across the school have been revising the steps to five dances that we love to perform, and we are starting to look pretty sharp. The dance session starts at 4pm on Sunday, so if your family is still running on an afternoon sugar high, head to the oval to let off steam before going home: there will be dances for all ages!

The 3/4s practise the Macarena.

Also, here is a bumper music date for your diary: Friday November 25th. There will be the Bazaar Talent Quest Assembly at 9:15am in-which students who received a special mention for their Bazaar performances will share their talent with the school. In the evening of Friday 25th November at 7pm, our Instrumental Music students will present their end of year concert. The end of year concerts are always special as we celebrate the achievements of our beginners in the IM program, and we congratulate and farewell our beautiful Year 6s as they perform for us for the last time.

Have a wonderful time on Sunday and thanks for all you contribute to make music the best time ever! Cheerio, Deb.
