Bella Italia…un viaggio virtuale

Ciao a tutti…throughout the school we are having a wonderful time exploring the beauty and cultural riches of Bella Italia. We’ve seen Il Colosseo e il Panteon a Roma, le gondole e i canali a Venezia, and this week have been amazed by La Torre Pendente (di Pisa). Students are intrigued by this gravity defying campanile (bell tower) and have asked questions like “Why does it lean?”, “Will it fall over?” “I wonder what it feels like to climb it?”.  Venezia was also a great source of mystery and wonder: “Is Venezia floating on water?” “Does it get flooded?” “How do kids get to school in Venezia?” Students were fascinated by the concept of the acqua alta (high water) and loved the idea of a bookshop with a gondola and bathtub inside! We’ve seen the resilience and character of the Venetians as they negotiate their way through their city during the times of the acqua alta, walking atop planks or wading through the water with gumboots or plastic bags on their feet!
