Welcome to our first post for 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been extremely hot, but the new Year 2’s have been really helpful (Ihsahn).   We have been learning about more creative ways to feel welcome (Nina and Amelie).

Seb F: “I feel welcome when I am in a house so I am in a house, so I made a house”

Louis: We are making a house, like welcome to the house.  I am making it with Felix and Robert. We are using blocks.  We need people in the house”

Seb J: I am making the school because the school makes me feel welcome.  I feel welcome at school because everybody likes me.”

River and Seb C: We feel welcome when we make friends.  We are making a playground.

Tayma: I am making my grandma’s house because that’s where I feel welcome, because anytime we can come in

Evie M and Ivy Belle: We are making a school where there is a new preppie and he is all alone.  He says, “Can I play?” and they say, “Welcome’. The preppy was building a tower and the 5/6s came and wrecked it. A few months later all the kids were coming to count some stuff. The little preppy asked if she could join then and they said yes. They said, “Welcome”. The teacher went over and said, “Good job girls. Good job for being welcoming.”

Isaiah, Owen and Wilco: We are making a house. Some evil guy destroyed his house. The evil guy isn’t welcome. And then he has to go away to a campsite and all the other people are in a big tent and then he’s welcome there. Maybe some of their houses might have gotten destroyed as well.

Iggy: I would like to bring in a USB so we can keep documents of what we can write down in our musical.  I am working with Charlotte Gigi and Nina.

Gigi: We are using a book so we can keep all the writing of our scripts and planning in one spot.

Nina: Our musical is about everybody feeling welcome.  The play will show people letting other people play

Iggy: It will be about other things too, like it’s good to find someone to be friends with because that makes you feel welcome

We were able to make our own signs for our lockers (Gigi) by:

  • Heidi: I measured my locker by putting the paper in first, then ruling it with the ruler by tracing around.
  • Ivy Belle: I measured my locker slot by putting the paper on one side of the plastic square and then I traced it and put lines down where I am going to cut.
  • Ayshe: I used a ruler to measure my locker slot.  I thought it would be easier to use a ruler because I can look at the numbers, keep them in my head, then go to the Studio and then I can take the ruler with me.  I can use the numbers onto the paper and cut it out.

Even though it’s only been two days, there are many things we are enjoying about Year 2 so far:

  • What I like about Year 2 is that all my friends are here, they make me feel happy and calm (Jack K)
  • There are a lot of blocks to build with and it is fun.  I have been making robots out of blocks because I am curious about robots (Gabriel)
  • I like Year 2 because there are lots of books and I like to learn about new information (Louis)

This has been our first blog post for 2020.  There will be many more to come. Stay tuned for our next Year 2 Neighbourhood update.

Yours sincerely,

The Year 2 Neighbourhood
