Using our many languages to express our mathematical thinking

Over the last couple of weeks, the students of 3/4 have been invited to create a teaching resource for another student on the correct use of mathematical language.

We began our investigation into the many words we use when usingĀ  multiplication and division. Students discussed the key words and then selected a word to investigate.

For this project, the teachers remained available but gave little structure, allowing the students to investigate and share their thinking through multiple forms of expression. The students of 3/4 have taken this in their stride and have developed videos, animations, board games, posters, books and artworks that express their thinking and share it with others.

This morning, we celebrated some of these in our neighbourhood assembly.
