Publishing Our Narratives in Term 4

Image result for book printing process

This term, as you know, the Year Twos have been developing their narratives while also working with Tai Snaith as part of our Artist in Residence program to create illustrations.

Next term we will continue our focus on our Inquiry Big Idea  ‘Why Write?’ and one of our main areas of learning will be collaboratively designing, publishing, and launching a printed book of students’ stories and accompanying illustrations.

Completing the artwork and narratives will take us up until the end of this term. Next term we will begin designing the book layout and preparing it to be sent to the printers. To make this project feasible, we require a confirmation of selling at least 60 copies before the end of the term. Payment will be finalised once they arrive back from the printers (mid Term 4).

We currently estimate that the cost per book will be $25. It will be 120 pages, A4, full colour, with a ‘perfect bound’ spine and soft cover. This is similar to the cookbook that the Year 2 Neighbourhood published in 2017, of which there is a copy of in the neighbourhood if you would like to get a better idea of the quality of printing and paper. Each student’s narrative and artwork will be laid out across 2 pages.

We would like to get an idea of interest within our community and confirm numbers for printing by Friday 20th September 2019. Once this is confirmed, the total printing costs and individual cost per book can be finalised. Forms with all of this information were given to students on Wednesday. Thank you in advance for completing and returning the form if you are interested in purchasing a copy (or a few copies!) of our book.
