Visit to the State Library of Victoria – Term 3 Excursion (Week 5)

Announcing… a second excursion coming up in Term 3! On Tuesday 13th August 2019 in Week 5 the Year 2 Neighbourhood will visit the State Library of Victoria.

This excursion is an opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of the artwork of our artist in residence, Tai Snaith, who is working with the Year 2 Neighbourhood this term to create illustrations for our narratives. Her large scale ‘Open Book’ installation is on display at the State Library. In small groups, students will also investigate the different spaces of the library in the form of a self-guided tour, connecting to our Big Idea Inquiry Topic ‘Why Write?’. It is intended that this experience will provoke students interest into how ideas and information can be stored and shared as pieces of writing, as well as in other ways, with an audience.

On Tuesday 13th August 2019, we will leave in the morning so that we arrive to the State Library ready for their 10am opening time. We will spend about an hour in the library and will return to school by 12pm ready to have lunch back at school.

Look out for permission forms sent through COMPASS. We plan to catch the tram down Lygon Street into the city, meaning that the excursion will be completely free. We will also be requiring a number of parent volunteers to travel with us and help out on the day, so please get in touch with Meredith, Kate, or Warrick if you are available and keen to come along!

Parent volunteers will need to have a Working With Children check/card, which can be applied for online and then submitted to Julie at the office for her to keep on record.
