Buongiorno Italia!

Ciao a tutti e bentornati a scuola!

This term will see all students take a virtual tour of Italy, exploring its unique shape and geography, icons and monuments, history, art and music, and food! We will read and view authentic texts, explore Italian music and dance (especially opera, through our forthcoming experience of Opera Australia’s Barber of Seville!), customs and traditions. We will also consider the many aspects of Italian life that are present and familiar to us here in Melbourne.

Language exploration will include a look at the Italian alphabet, use of adjectives to describe (eg il gelato e` delizioso!- icecream is delicious!), plurals (Posso avere due gusti?- may I have 2 flavours?), simple verbs (Muzzy mangia un gelato-Muzzy is eating an icecream)

Students in prep-2 will continue their adventure with their favourite green monster, Muzzy, who helps us to learn Italian by being immersed in the language. Together we will construct stories about his adventures to Italia.

Students in years 3-6 will work individually or in small groups to explore a facet of Italian life, to enhance their understanding of the language and nation from which it comes. They will share their discoveries through a variety of media: maps, posters, role plays, videos, board games, models.
