Presenting Action Plans

As a culmination of the inquiry, Year 5/6 students confidently presented their Action Plans this week. It has been their challenge to create a plan that would enact change that would benefit local community members. We observed that many of the students were inspired to create plans that would encourage values of respect, kindness, inclusiveness, and care within our community.

Some of the plans suggested creating new clubs, some offered efforts to fundraise for specific causes and some simply offered suggested activities we might try. While some of us continue to consider details of our plans as new questions from peers provoked new thoughts, all of us had a considered the cause at the heart of our plan.

Through the presentations, students were able to demonstrate our ability to communicate effectively with the audience. Feedback was given about the action plans and for some who had gone to the extra effort of enacting their plans there were moments of celebration and gratitude. It was a pleasure to witness students seeing themselves as active citizens, responding ethically, and empowered as change agents.

Something you can do at home

This would be a great time to talk about your child’s action plan with them. Share with them ways either yourself, friends or family members seek to contribute in the community and the way you approach it.
